Tantsu Meditations

Like Zen Shiatsu and Watsu, Tantsu itself is a form of meditation based on connection, breath, stretching and movement. In all our classes we introduce meditations that help the participants access and understand the different forms of energy that are freed in Tantsu's close holds and stretches.

In our first class, before they share the Whole Body Hold, we introduce the following movement meditation to bring awareness to the flows in the meridians and their source at the base. Meridians are the pathways of energy through the points that are used in acupuncture and shiatsu to unblock and balance their flows. Stretching, by bringing those flows to the surface, is an even older form of accessing them. In our first meditation we focus on our central meridians, that, having their source in our base, is a lake that all the other meridians flow out of, and stretch the longest meridians in our legs that connect us to the earth.

After the participants share the Whole Body Hold on one side we lead them into the second side with a meditation that helps them access and understand all the forms of energy that come into play in a Tantsu.

A Tantsu Shared Energy Meditation

In our second module with its Spoon, Straddle and Lounge holds we focus on the deep heart connection these holds facilitate. Before going into them we introduce a movement meditation that focuses on stretching the meridians in the arms both to the outside and to the inside.

Arm Meridians Movement Meditation

After the participants share the three holds on one side we lead them into the second side with a meditation that prepares them for the role our deepest heart center can play in our connection with others.
