A Tantsu Shared Energy Meditation

Note: This meditation comes just before doing the core moves in the whole body hold on the second side in the first module of the New Tantsu. The one who will be holding sits in the place where he will hold. The one to be held turns to face him or her.

Sit facing each other without touching. Balance your upper back's straightness on the natural curving in of your lower back. Look into each other's eyes. This will be the last time until you come to the end of the Tantsu and face each other in this same position. Close your eyes. Notice whatever tendency to move you feel within. Let the movement unfold. Notice that wherever it begins, it keeps on flowing through your body. Flow is the form our energy takes to circulate through all our meridians. Breathe in. Your breath accompanies those flows out to all parts of your body. Breathe out. Your breath and all those flows empty into a bowl at the base of the spine, your navel its front, your sacrum its back, your perineum its bottom. And at the very bottom of the breath, when everything has emptied into that bowl, the bowl itself empties into that point at the bottom, which is where our energy returns into the void, which is its most powerful state because it is pure potential.... At the bottom of each breath drop a little deeper into that void, stay a little longer.

Flow is just one way our energy rises up out of the void. It takes another form in our chakras. Focus on the chakra just below your navel ... and on the chakra above your navel ... and on the chakra in front of your heart. The energy in a chakra is not a flow but a resonance and, like a tuning fork, this one resonates with the heart chakra of your partner sitting in front of you. Focus on that resonance.... Resonate at the throat chakra, what you say without words,... and at the third eye, what you see with eyes closed.

Breathe out. Drop all the way back down into the void, deeper and deeper, all the way down to where the void itself resonates ... Creation ... and that resonance flowing up becomes still another form of energy ... Wave.... Breathe that wave all the way up the back, all the way up to that place of light just above your head, not a seeing light but a being light, a shining out to all sides, all of creation... Breathe out and all that light settles back down the front as slow as snow falling, darkening as it empties back into the void to begin again ... and again ... and again ... and this rising up and settling down is a continuous cycle, a circle that contains us.

Containment is still another form of energy ... Peace ... the peace the fallen infant feels when mother picks up and holds him, the peace you feel when your partner surrounds you with arms and legs and grounds you with continuous support at the base so that there is a greater flow as meridians are stretched, a deeper resonance as chakras are held, a greater wave as the back is shaken and a deeper peace as you are held in stillness.

The containment of that peace allows you to go deep within ... into the very center of that circle that contains you ... into the deepest center in your heart. ...the place where you come to know your oneness with everything ... and where you find still another form of energy: ... Love...

Those about to be held keep your eyes closed. Move whatever you are sitting on out from under you and with a half turn to your right reposition yourself. Straighten out your left leg. Bend and clasp your right knee in both hands. Stay focused on that love within as your partner reaches out to hold your heart from both sides.
